Geophysics Hackathon

It's happening! After a year off, the Geophysics Hackathon is coming back to the US. Join us for a weekend of inspired invention and creative computing.

Read all about the event!

Theme: Machine learning and disaster relief.
Location: Station Houston, 1301 Fannin St.
Hours: Friday 6 pm to 10 pm, Sat & Sun 8 am to 6 pm.

UPDATE 7 September 2017

We are geophysicists — we know data, analytics, and uncertainty. There are plenty of applied problems to work on in geoscience and natural resources, but the ongoing hardship caused by Hurricane Harvey presents a new opportunity. We have the chance to contribute directly to the recovery effort, or to think about how geophysical data can inform disaster mitigation and preparedness. Teams of five will be working on projects around geophysical machine learning and/or disaster mitigation and relief.

The hack is back! For the second year, we'll be hacking in Europe, right before the EAGE annual conference.

We aim for fun, social coding at its finest. Come and learn about the theme of machine learning and help create the next generation of geoscience apps.

Everyone is welcome — potential programmers and interested interpreters, as well as professional scientists and coders.

Location: To be confirmed. It will not be too far from Expo Paris, where the conference is located.

A hands-on skill-boost in programming.

In preparation for the Subsurface Hackathon over the weekend, we'll be hosting a bootcamp — open to anyone who wants to find out more about scientific computing and machine learning in Python.

We'll cover things like: getting started in Python, the scientific Python stack, machine learning with scikit-learn, and managing data in the popular pandas library.
