Digital scientist

Agile* is looking for a full-time digital scientist in Canada.


You will be the lead developer on subsurface, a new open source Python project for subsurface scientists. The goal of the tool is to support data science and machine learning workflows in the subsurface. As well as being part of Agile, the project is part of the Software Underground universe of digital subsurface science and engineering. A portion of your role will be to help coordinate the open source developer community around this and other projects in the stack. Read more about this project.

In addition to the open source software project, we are looking for someone who can help teach our various scientific Python classes from time to time. These include Introduction to Geocomputing, Machine Learning for Geoscientists, and Geocomputing Mastery. Some travel, mostly within Europe and North America, is required for this aspect of the role. About you

  • You are anywhere in Canada (Halifax, Toronto, or Calgary preferred).

  • You have a postgraduate degree in a natural or physical science.

  • You're into scientific computing, machine learning, and/or signal processing, especially in Python.

  • Some awareness of reproducible research and open source software would be an advantage.

  • Some experience teaching and developing learning material would be an advantage.
